Dr. Valerie Goertzen, "'To Switzerland in Good Spirits': Joseph Joachim's 1883 Tour"

Mostly Mondays continues with a presentation from Dr. Valerie Goertzen.

The talk focuses on a pocket-sized tour book prepared by one of the first professional concert agents in Europe for the world-class violinist Joseph Joachim (1831–1907). The itinerary paints Joachim’s life on tour as a succession of highly focussed vignettes, a series of instructive choices that shed light on his biography and, more generally, on the changing status of artists in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Letters to Loyola: A Warm Welcome

January 27, 2022

Dear Loyola,

I am so happy to see many of you back on campus yesterday and cannot wait for you all to return on Monday.  There is nothing like distance to remind us of the joy of being together in community.  I want to just remind you of some of the amazing things you can do on campus.
