Student Successes

Our sociology majors are an exceptionally well-rounded group of students who excel in all areas of campus life, from academics and athletics to community service and the arts.   Here are just a few of many examples of recent sociology student accomplishments.

  • Megan Harvell, received The Dux Sociologicus Award, at the 2007 College of Social Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Wilhelmina Peragine, received The Jerrol M. Seasan "Spirit of Gemeinschaft" Award, at the 2007 College of Social Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Alvaro Alcazar, Jr. and Wilhelmina Peragine, both received The Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism, at the 2007 College of Social Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Justine Diamond, received The Dux Sociologicus Award, at the 2006 College of  Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Jacob Steubing, received The Jerrol M. Seaman "Spirit of Gemeinschaft" Award, at the 2006 College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Joseph Oliver, received The Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism, at the 2006 College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Erica N. Krause, received The Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism, at the 2005 College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Jennifer L. Mahnke, received The Jerrol M. Seaman “Spirit of Gemeinschaft” Award, at the 2005 College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Annie K. Scott, received The Dux Sociologicus Award, at the 2005 College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
  • Muetze Hellmer and Tamara Martínez were selected by the Sociology Department faculty to receive the 2004 Dux Sociologicus Award for outstanding academic achievement.
  • Mary Grace Stewart was selected by the Sociology Department faculty to receive the 2004 Jerrol M. Seaman "Spirit of Gemeinschaft" Award for her leadership in community service promoting peace and social justice.
  • Betina Cutaia was selected by the Sociology Department faculty to receive the 2004 Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism.
