Dr. Capowich received his Ph.D. in 1997 from the University of Maryland and taught at Washington State University for four years before joining the faculty at Loyola University in 2001. Prior to entering academe he spent several years as a researcher, first as a Statistical Analyst for the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg, Virginia then as a Senior Research Scientist with the Institute for Social Analysis in Washington, D.C. During that time he worked on several national and regional research projects including studies of four federal appellate jurisdictions, a study of alternative dispute resolution, and evaluations of several community crime prevention and policing programs. Dr. Capowich’s primary research interests include exploring quantitative methods, testing sociological theories of deviance/crime, and evaluating the effectiveness of social policies in the areas of crime, public safety, quality of neighborhood life, and fear of crime. He has authored several book chapters, research articles in the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Criminal Justice, and Criminal Justice and Behavior, an entry in the 2001 Encyclopedia of Deviance and Crime, and numerous government/technical reports.
