School of Nursing's Ann H. Cary awarded graduate nursing grants
Ann H Cary, PhD MPH RN A-CCC, Professor and Director of the School of Nursing and Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow, has received over $250,000 for student financial awards for 2009-2010. She received a grant award for $138,935 from the Health Resources & Services Administration to be used to award traineeships to Loyola University New Orleans graduate nursing students for the 2009-2010 academic year. This federal grant award is part of federal traineeship award resources which support health professions education. Traineeships are awarded to individuals by the participating institutions offering master’s and doctoral programs, combined RN to Masters degree programs, post-nursing masters certificate programs and students in post baccalaureate on campus programs for nurse practitioners and health care systems managers.
Dr. Cary was also awarded over $92,000 through the Nurse Faculty Loan Program, a federal loan forgiveness program for graduate students committed to teaching/faculty positions at Schools of Nursing throughout the United States upon graduation. For a 4 year commitment to a faculty postion post-graduation, students will receive up to 85% forgiveness of their student loans. The Loyola University New Orleans Nurse Faculty Loan Program award $92,723 is approximately 89% federally funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, at $83,450 and approximately 11% funded by Loyola University New Orleans at $9,273 for 2009-2010.
