Short Bio

Upon completion of her Ph.D. at Michigan State University, Dr. Wendy L. Hicks became part of the Loyola University New Orleans faculty in the Fall of 2003.  She holds expertise in policing and law enforcement administration. She is also recognized as an expert on white supremacist organizations.  Dr. Hicks teaches research methods, program planning & evaluation, and statistics.

Dr. Hicks has published on a variety of topics within her discipline, including the publication of a book entitled Police Vehicular Pursuits:  Constitutionality, Liability, and Negligence.  She has examined the Augustinian Just War Tradition as it pertains to law enforcement use of force and has obtained certifications in white supremacy and gangs from the National Gang Crime Research Center.

Dr. Hicks was recently inducted into the World Who’s Who of Women and the Marquis Who’s Who of American Women.  During the summer semesters, she usually travels to the University of Michigan’s Inter-University Consortium on Political and Social Research to learn techniques of statistical analysis and methodology.  Dr. Hicks feels there is a beauty and a purity to be found in statistics.

Dr. Hicks is also a sitting member of the Research Committee for the Council for Accelerated Programs and the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning.  She also assists in research studies pertaining to on-line programs in higher education and various accelerated pedagogical techniques.

Dr. Hicks has a good number of hobbies which she takes quite seriously. The listing below is just a small inventory of the extracurricular activities she enjoys: surfing and boogie boarding with trophy wins twice at the annual Gulf Coast Surf Sisters competition; riding member of the Krewe of Tucks and the Fat Bankers Social Aid & Pleasure Society; racing sailboats at the New Orleans Yacht Club, where she works bow on a 28 foot, J-92, the J-Rex, and a 36 foot Catalina, the Right Stuff, Gulf Coast Regional winner of the 2007 Leukemia Cup; zydeco & salsa dancing; and playing the euphonium in the Jefferson Parish Concert Band and Crescent City Wind Symphony. She has played trumpet in the Loyola University Concert Band and American Legion Post 175 Band, the official band of the National World War II Museum. Until fairly recently, Dr. Hicks was the youngest person in the world at age 10 to ever obtain a Hamm radio license.

Dr. Hicks truly believes she is the most fortunate person in the world.  To do what she does and to be who she is is the stuff of dreams.  She feels very blessed to have been given the chance to live the life she lives.
