Short Bio
Professor David Hamilton joined the Department of Criminal Justice as a part-time lecturer in the Spring of 2007. He received his Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado in Public Administration and has been with the Baton Rouge Police Department for the last 14 years. His current assignment is with the Division of Homeland Security and Grants Management, coordinating and implementing Emergency Preparedness and Critical Incident Management with the local, state, and federal divisions of Homeland Security.
As a member of the Baton Rouge Police Department he has served in numerous divisions such as Uniform Patrol, Narcotics, Forgery and Fraud Investigations and Administration. His assignments have also included a 5 year tactical entry team member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, known as Special Response Team, specializing in hostage rescue, barricaded suspects and high risk warrants.
Each year during both regular and special Louisiana legislative sessions, David serves as the Legislative Liaison testifying in both Senate and House Committees on issues relating to criminal statutes, civil service, and labor issues. He also regularly testifies in East Baton Rouge Parish City Council Meetings with regards to federal and state grant issues on behalf of the Baton Rouge Police Department.
David currently serves on several boards and committees to include the Capital District Law Enforcement Planning Council, Fund raising committee for the Fallen Heroes of Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Parish Local Emergency Planning Committee, Baton Rouge Area Incident Management Team, and the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association. Sub-Committee current assignments with the East Baton Rouge Office of Homeland Security include the Emergency Incident Notification Systems, the Weapons of Mass Destruction/CBRNE Preparedness, the Citizens Corp Council, and the Emergency Operations Planning Committee.
David has had the opportunity to teach Introduction to Law Enforcement and Constitutional Law with Loyola University New Orleans. He also teaches Ethical Decision Making in Law Enforcement to current Police Academy recruits.
