The Lambda Upsilon Nu Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association, in conjunction with the Department of Criminal Justice and the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society, held a criminal justice social Friday, October 26, 2007 in the Audubon Room of the Dana Center.
Faculty from the Criminal Justice Department present at the event included Drs. William Thornton, Dee Harper, Wendy Hicks, Patrick Walsh, and Karen Ross, as well as Professor (Capt.) Tim Scanlan from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. David Aplin, the Executive Assistant to the Chairman, Eddie Compass, LaFourche Parish Sheriff Craig Weber, and Mr. Preston Koelling, Region 2 President of the American Criminal Justice Association and instructor at East Arkansas Community College were also present.
The evening’s festivities began with an introduction by Dr. Thornton, followed by Lambda Upsilon Nu’s presentation of certificates of appreciation to Sheriff Craig Weber and Eddie Compass, former adjunct instructors for the Department of Criminal Justice, for their contributions to the profession of Criminal Justice through education by devoting years of service to both the students and faculty of the department. Sheriff Weber and Mr. Compass both spoke briefly about their experiences teaching for the department as well as their careers in the field of law enforcement within the criminal justice system. Judge Dennis Waldron was also honored; however, he had a previously scheduled engagement and could not attend the function.
Concluding the presentation of certificates, Mr. Preston Koelling, President of Region 2 of the American Criminal Justice Association, spoke briefly about criminal justice higher education and his career working in both academia and law enforcement.
After Mr. Koelling ended his presentation, he and the officers from Lambda Upsilon Nu began the association’s induction ceremony for new members. Inductees included the following members:
Founding members, Dr. Wendy Hicks, Loyola Criminal Justice alumnus and association President Janell McFarland, and Loyola students Lauren Copeland, Beka Hoffacker, Kevin Decker, and Nicole Pellerano.
New members Chaila Scott, Sarah Wilson, Michael Swantek, Karen Brazuk, Elizabeth Clendenin, Angela Triche, Lindsey Norton, Aimee Fowlkes, Christina Bonura, Jeannine Davidson, Twaka Bell, Elizabeth Gblende, Emily Hero, Gina Karcich, and Kellie Fox were also inducted.
Janell McFarland concluded the evening’s festivities and thanked everyone for attending. Guest mingled and talked and eventually everyone departed.
