Graduate Program of Study in Counseling
The Curriculum

The Master of Science in Community Counseling offered at Loyola University New Orleans is a 48 hr. graduate program. Students are required to take 9 hrs. of core courses, 33 semester hrs. of required counseling courses, and 6 hrs. of electives consistent with the student's interest and approved by the advisor. The capstone experience, which involves translating learnings into practice under close supervision, includes the Practicum and 2 consecutive semesters of Internship. Students are also required to complete a candidacy application form after the completion of between 12 and 15 hrs., 9 hrs. of which include the core courses. Full-time students will have slightly more than 15 hours at the completion of the three core courses and should apply for candidacy at that time. Students are urged to meet with their advisor on a regular basis to insure that requirements are being completed in a timely manner and that courses appropriate to the student's program of study are selected.
