S.L. Alexander, an award-winning journalist who has worked in print, radio and television, specializes in press coverage of courts.
A member of the faculty at Loyola University since 1991, she has written extensively on press coverage of courts, including Covering the Courts: A Handbook for Journalists (2nd ed 2003), Media and American Courts (2004) and Courtroom Carnival: Famous New Orleans Trials (2011).
Dr. Alexander earned a Ph.D. at the University of Florida School of Journalism and Mass Communication, with an outside area of concentration in the College of Law.
Her freelance work includes serving at host of Writers Forum, a weekly 30-minute author-interview program on WRBH-FM/wrbh.org, New Orleans.
A popular speaker, workshop leader, and consultant on various journalism topics, her memberships include the Society of Professional Journalists. SPJ (Louisiana FoI "Sunshine" Chairman), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), and the Press Club of New Orleans (past president).
Current projects include publication of an excerpt from her forthcoming memoirs in William McKeen's Homegrown in Florida (2012), and contributions to a book on First Amendment law in Louisiana and another on The Times-Picayune.
